In my poker career, I had decided that this upcoming year I would do more travelling and attend more live tournaments across the world. So when I received an invitation to join TEAM888 i was extremely excited. The kind of support i will receive from TEAM888 will increase my confidence in the upcoming live tournaments.
Well, this year's world series of poker hasn't gone as planned so far. Combined with my subpar play and brutal luck, I have managed to start out 0 for 12(no cashes) in the tournaments here in Vegas so far. ... Read more
My New Favorite Color is Limelight (07.04.10)The 2010 Irish Poker Open is over and it was the most fun I've ever had playing in a live tournament. The structure of the tournament was wild in the early stages, but later on I really enjoyed the way it played out. I would definitely play in it next year as well, pending my schedule. With around 35 players left, I think I was 2nd in chips at one point. I lost a few all-in monster pots with some bad luck, but thats the way it goes. Soon after I was struggling to stay alive and ended up going out at 19th place. The amount of exposure I received on Day 2 and 3 was a great experience. I played at the TV table twice and had lots of family and friends watching from the webcast back home. With things going well, I was asked to do a few interviews and am going to be appearing in some upcoming magazines. I ended up meeting new people and making new friends every night at the hotel bar afterwards. They asked me what I do to relax after playing in a tourny all day, and they were baffled when I replied that I would likely be going up to my room after the bar to play some cash games online. I felt all along that I was going to end up at the final table with a good chance to win it all. Even though I didnt, I felt that this event was a success... and that only drives my hunger while I wait to play in the next big event. ... Read more
Wrong Read Gone Right (04.04.10)Day 2 of the Irish Open I was playing at a table with Andrew Feldman. He was opening a lot of pots similar to myself. So i would three-bet him pretty light and get him off a lot of hands. Anyways, i end up raising a hand UTG with KJ. He smooth calls with 99 in the cutoff, and the small blind goes all-in for a few chips more, we both call. Flop is K94, i felt i had been fairly aggro vs Feldman, so i decided to play this one slow, check-calling his small bet on the flop and the turn(when it came 6clubs). The river brought the Jack of clubs, so it appears as if a backdoor flush hits. I figure the Jack now makes my hand invincible with top two pair. I bet 13.5k into a 20k pot, he has just over 14k left and with everyone crowded around our table he has to basically make a decision for his tournament life. As soon as I bet he appeared extremely frustrated, and I instantly got the feeling that he must have a set. After what felt like a 15 minute tank, he decided to fold, and before I flipped over the winner, I asked him if he folded a set. He shows 99 before he mucks, and I flip over my KJ for the winner vs the small-blind. He said he was very sure that I hit a backdoor flush there. I would have called if I were him because there are just so many more hands that he beats there, minus a flush. It was a huge pot for me at the time and helped catapult me through a great day 2. ... What's Up and What's Happenin' (02.04.10)After Australia I've been spending a lot of my time back at the high stakes cash games. I've been running on a heater, creating my best results ever. Went on a trip to Los Angeles for the WPT event there and got deep into the tourney, making several key 'monster bluffs'. I played at a table with Daniel Negreanu on day 3 and we watched Canada win the Olympic Gold Medal in men's hockey. He described me as the 'super aggressive Canadian kid' in his blog, which I'll definitely take as a compliment. Anyhow, i managed to blow off all my chips in one big monster hand. I was able to learn from it though. I seem to learn something important from every tournament I play, so I'm expecting a big win any moment now. Got to Ireland this week, and received some great news that TEAM888 will be continuing into the future. So i'm very grateful that I'll be able to keep up my travelling adventures and hang out with the other players. I slept for one hour the first night here, and four hours the second night. Now today's the day of the tournament, so I'll have to make sure that Paparazzi-Steve isn't lurking around waiting for me to fall asleep at the poker table. (although the last time I fell asleep at a poker table, i ended up winning the tournament, might be my lucky day) ... Read more
British Inaccuracies (29.01.10)Well my main event life is over, finishing in at 49th place. It was one of those tournaments where I rarely got big pocket pairs, but I still played many hands and it might be the only tournament I've ever played where I didn't suffer even ONE bad-beat! So with this finish I am happy with my play and the overall outcome. I feel my game is really improving... as I'm bluffing a lot more than I'm used to ... Read more
Welcome to the NEW 888 (24.01.10)I arrived in aussie early yesterday morning. At lunch we were introduced to the flashy new blue 888 logo. I'm liking it quite a bit more than the old one, as this one seems to catch the eye a bit easier. After lunch we met with Annette Melton and the camera crew to take some ... Read more
Paradise is exactly like where you are right now… only much, much better (19.01.10)2009 has been quite a success. I have stopped keeping track of the exact numbers of wins and losses but I know that this past year I have more than doubled my personal best year. Which brings me to 2010... As Darren told me, once you get to high stakes, you'll never want to drop back down any lower. So January 2010 is half over and it has already been the least amount of poker I have played in a one month span during these last 5 years. ... Read more
Back to Yeti-Country (15.12.09)Europe was a Blast! The last night of my euro-trip I planned on just catching some sleep, but Bojan ended up convincing me to go clubbing for just an hour. So I planned on getting back to the hotel at 1am so I could sleep because I needed to be at the airport at 8am. The clubs weren't packed, but it was more fun than expected, and after getting to my hotel room at 6:30am, I was able to get in a full hour of sleep before heading to the airport. ... Read more
